Dealing with the Death of Your Dog
There is no question that the death of a beloved dog can be very difficult. Since we are often thought of as family members, it is understandable that the loss of such a companion will have an impact. I know my family would certainly be very upset if something happened to me.
Grief is normal. It's ok to grieve for the loss of your dog. If there is anyone around you that will not respect your grief, stay away from them for awhile. You need some time to let the sadness pass. Enjoy your memories of your guy. Look at pictures and reflect on his fun times with other family and friends. You could even establish some type of memorial for your dog as a remembrance. When you are feeling better and ready to think about getting another dog, remember that you are not replacing your beloved pet. He was a one-of-a-kind and cannot be replaced, so don't try and don't even think about it that way. You are going to start a new unique relationship with a dog or puppy! Us dogs are such an awesome complement to people's lives that you need to make sure you don't let the hurt associated with the loss of a beloved dog keep you from enjoying a new, special relationship.
The Afterlife
Spiritual things are difficult to talk about, but you would probably like to be assured that you will see your beloved dog again one day.I am certainly not a dog trained in theology, but my family is made up of a bunch of Christians who are confident of what happens after death. They have confidence that everyone participates in the afterlife, but the question is really whether you will
spend it with God
or be separated from God for eternity. But, what about dogs and other pets? What happens to them? We furry companions are certainly a part of God's creation (which God said is good!), placed here for the enjoyment of man. You hear people say that dogs don't have a soul. The Bible doesn't say anything about that. It doesn't directly address whether dogs, or other animals, go to heaven after death. However, the prophet Isaiah, in
verse 65:25
of his book in the Bible, describes a scene in heaven that is full of animals. Since heaven will contain everything that is good and will bring glory to God, my family believes that, after my death, I will be there too!
