Dog Day Spa - A Special Day
for Your Dog

I'm not sure if you have one of these in your community, but we have a dog day spa nearby and it has certainly become popular.

Now, I'm not talking about your basic kennel or any other type of general boarding facility, but a place for your furry guy to really get pampered.

Being kind of a rough and tumble, fully masculine brown dog mixed breed kind of guy, I don't think the dog day spa thing is for me, but you may find that your furry friend may really enjoy time there. Whatever floats your bone!

Who Needs a Spa?

"Who needs a spa?"

Dog Day Spa - Really?

Yes, really! If you have a dog that is rather sociable with other fellas and, perhaps, needs care for a day or so, you may want to give this option some consideration.

Many offer the convenience of transportation to and from your home. Since a dog day spa attempts to pamper, you can be relatively certain that your dog will receive good care. In fact, many offer web cam surveillance so that you can check in and take a look at how your guy is doing in pilates class (ok, I am joking about the pilates - maybe)!

Note that, not unlike other boarding facilities, you need to ensure your fella is current with all vaccinations, including bordetella. And since the dogs are running around, "socializing," they must be neutered or spade.

You need to also understand that these places are exclusive. All dogs are not allowed in. Your fella will be evaluated according to temperament and personality to ensure he will get along well with others.

What About the Pampering?

Your local dog day spa will likely offer quarters that are more plush than the typical kennel. Many provide "playpen" areas that are certainly more "upscale" than the typical concrete holding areas offered by other boarding options. Some even tout that their "suites" have been developed by professional designers!

Think of the dog day spa as a Ritz-Carlton for dogs. Some include VIP Suites that actually offer bottled water, luxury bedding, flatscreen TV's (Lassie reruns?), mood lighting, designer art, and soothing music.

Your guy can go to the salon or wellness center for a session. He can even hit the fitness center and get on the doggie treadmill for a workout!

Dog grooming? Well, this goes way beyond basic grooming for all those zen dogs out there! They can offer your pampered pooch services like aromatherapy, botanical baths, facials, message, warm wax treatments (touch me with hot wax and I may bite!), and hair color streaking! Hey, your guy can even "stay alive" in the doggie disco (I'm not kidding)!

Other Options?

If your pup is like me and not really the dog day spa type, but you want to provide a special day for him, there are certainly other options.

It's important to remember that your fella is crazy about you and the most special thing you can give him is your time and attention.

So, to enjoy a special day together, start your morning with an additional treat after breakfast. Then, a nice long walk in the park or a wooded area. Allow him all the time he wants to just sniff around and enjoy being there with you.

When you get back home, if your guy enjoys a bath, go for it. It's not my favorite thing, but I do enjoy a good brushing. Maybe your fella does too, so pamper him a little. Spend more time with him, just petting him and giving him a bit of a gentle message. When I get this treatment, I get on my back and turn upside down with delight!

Add one more special treat after dinner and that is a great day! And, if you must, play a Bee Gee's tune and enjoy our own private disco time! The dog day spa has nothing on you guys!
