Flying Dogs?

My owner was recently talking about a plane trip he was on and (I can't hardly believe it!) there was a dog kept in a carrying case underneath the seat of another passenger??!?!?

I could hardly believe my brown furry ears. To begin, I guess the whining dog was rather annoying for the rest of the passengers. But, really people, what do you expect? That guy doesn't want to be in that bag on that airplane!

It just seems so unnatural to me! Let's recap... what do we enjoy?

Walks and exercise with our owners

Great tasting, natural dog food and treats

A good squeaky toy or frisbee

Fire hydrant

A soft, cuddly place on the couch (with a pillow)

Ride in a bag, under a seat, on an airplane... ABSOLUTELY NOT!

If my owners are reading this, don't even think about it! I don't need to be anywhere in a big hurry. I prefer old fashioned, slow-moving travel. Think of me as the "John Madden" of the dog world!

Dog in a bag, under a seat at 32,000 feet in the air...the roar of the engines, the smell of the peanuts (ok, I wouldn't mind that), the changes in air pressure on my sensitive dog ears!?!?!?

John, save me a seat on that bus!!!

Art Bark Fest

Ok, I don't care what kind of a party you're having, but if you call it "something or other AND Bark Fest," then you're on to something!

If you're going to be around North Lake Tahoe, California over the September 13th weekend, check out this festival that combines a love of art, wine and animals (which is just awesome by the way!).

Get this... animal art will be on display!?!? Sounds like I should submit my interpretation of Whistler's Mother, or does this suggest a strong emphasis on the wine?!?!?

If your guy is partial to water, be sure to enter him in the Dog Lake Jump (I stay dry). And, there is live music - not certain whether it is also provided by the animals.

Sounds like good entertainment value... this brown dog says, "enjoy!!!"

Gary Responds... to a health question

Nettie from Michigan writes:

I have a 2 yr old golden lab and his name is "fatboy." For the past (2) days he has been vomiting everything that he eats or drinks. The lady that I got "fatboy" from says he is up-to-date on his shots, but did not provide me with documentation. Can or does my beloved "baby" have parvo?

Nettie, this is such a serious health question that it is hard for me to have fun with it. Canine parvovirus disease is indeed a serious matter.

However, given your dog's age (typically a problem for much younger pups) and his name (fatboy may have just ingested something very disagreeable), my best guess is that he does not have parvo.

After two days of these symptoms, it is important that you consult your guy's Vet immediately. He is likely dehydrated, at a minimum, and you need a professional to fully diagnose and treat the problem.

Thank you for your question via Ask Gary. Be sure to let us know how fatboy is doing - this brown dog's prayers are with him (and you).

We Rescue Them and They Rescue Us...

I live in a part of the USA that is susceptible to hurricanes and, as I write this, we are well into hurricane season.

I don't like like to reflect on my own hurricane experiences because that gets into a bit of doggie trauma - doing well though, thank you.

But, I do want you to know about an organization that trains guys like me (too bad I'm too old now) to perform human rescue in disaster areas.

The Search Dog Foundation, ironically, first rescues dogs from shelters and other breed groups that are suitable for rescue training, then trains them for service. They receive no government funding.

Please check it out and donate! You get extra dog-sense credit for that!!!

Greatest American Dog

Ok, did you catch Greatest American Dog on American TV (CBS) Thursday night?

Decent entertainment factor, but a quick dog-sense review leaves a few observations:

Am I being a bit Brown Dog arrogant, or just because I obey my owner and can sit, stay, shake, play dead (ok, I'm just lazy) and do other assorted minor tricks - does it put me light years ahead of several of those guys?

Call my agent!

Owners can indeed transfer their freak-out and anxiety directly to us dogs - you saw it first hand!

For $250,000 USD even this Brown Dog would wear an afro and do a disco dance.

If you were not a "dog person" and saw this show, you would think all dog people are crazy!

These people really love their dogs! But, is there a "healthy line" that may be crossed by a few? Oh yeahhhhh...

The skateboarding English Bull Dog was probably my favorite. Tillman, that was sick, dude! Way to go!

BTW, Galaxy will win!

I don't receive anything and am not formally promoting it, but I am "all about the dog," so if you like, check it out...

Gary Responds...

...to a question from Kitty in Florida, who writes:

"Would it be possible to clone Gary so we can all have dogs like him?"

Well Kitty, I am taking that as a complement! Thank you! I guess I am a bit unique, a Sensitive Brown Dog with his own website.

But, let's get real. There are plenty of other brown dogs out there that are awesome! They may not be able to manage a keyboard, but I have heard of plenty of guys out there that do incredible tricks.

Have you seen my page on Dog Sports? There's a lot of talent out there! Surfing dogs?!? And, I even know of some that sing!

So, try not be so enamored with my good looks, poise, sophistication or the power of my processor!

Go to the local Dog Rescue and get yourself a brown dog. Give him a lot of attention and love and you will see his own unique personality come out. He will be very grateful -- crazy about you!

And, just to add a little dog-sense here, I'm just not sure what Sensitive Brown Cloned Dog would think about having an owner named Kitty??!!?

Thank you for your question!

Take Your Dog to Work Day!

Yesterday I went to work with my owner.

First, we went nowhere (she has a home office). Second, it was boring and a bit annoying. She worked on the computer a lot and talked on the phone.

If I had known how dull it was going to be, I would have taken my laptop so I could blog to SensitiveBrownDog.com (although, she gets irritated because I type faster than she does).

Some of her speaker-phone conversations really confused me. There was a reference to something "performing like a dog" and somebody that was "dogging it." There was also a mention of someone that was being stubborn or something and was behaving "like a dog with a bone."

Let's stay positive with the dog references, people!

Anyway, I wish I could have gotten out of there to a real office with other dogs. At least we could have enjoyed a sniff-fest together!

Did you take your guy to work with you?
Maybe next year! Hopefully, your employer supports TYDTWD!

Home office? Let's get Starbucks to participate and I'll see you there!!!

Check out some of the office photos...

Veterans Helping Returning Heroes!

There are two wonderful veterans in Florida helping disabled American heroes returning from Afghanistan and Iraq by raising funds to provide them with service dogs.

Jerry Kramer, 80, is a Korean War veteran and a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient. Irwin Stovroff, 86, is a World War II veteran, having served as a B-24 Bombardier. He was shot down while on his 35th mission and was captured and spent the last year of the war in a Nazi prison camp. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for bravery.

These men, heroes themselves, started an organization that has supplied 52 service dogs to returning servicemen within the last year. No small feat when you consider it costs about $30,000 USD for a trained service dog.

I salute them, as well as the brown dogs (and my other brethren) that are serving our returning disabled veterans!

Sign up for the Challenge and receive one FREE 6.5 pound (or smaller) package OR $11.99 off any 8 pound, or larger, package of Purina ONE brand puppy or adult dog food, including Natural Blends.

This is a great way for them to give your guy an opportunity to try their higher quality foods.

As for me, already a satisfied purveyor of "Purina ONE Senior Protection Formula," it is a nice loyalty benefit!

Sorry to all my UK pup friends and others worldwide, this is a USA Only promotion.
