No Dumb Dog Supplies!

I am feeling compelled to speak out about dumb dog supplies. I see my peers at the dog park, on the street and other places (I am an active brown dog!) and need to be clear about a few things.

As much as it is important to well equip your dog, you people out there need to not overindulge us! We want your love and attention and not your dumb ideas about things you think we need.

If you are one of those folks that need to have it spelled out for you, here you go...

Top 5 Dumb Dog Supplies

Here are the top dumb dog supplies that your fella does not need, courtesy of my brown dog brain:

  • Dog shoes or boots of any kind
  • Isn't this obvious by the way we try to resist you when you attempt to "shoe" us?!! God gave us paws covered with fur, replete with pads on the bottom. Think of these as our natural shoes.

  • Dog clothes
  • Oh, the occasional scarf is probably ok and perhaps a doggie t-shirt to make a statement on a rare occasion.

But, please skip the froofy stuff! Don't make your beloved pet a part of your childhood reversion to playing dress-up or doll baby games.

Here's a tip - we don't like it! We have fur coats, it's all the clothes we ever really need!

  • Dog hats or visors
  • Uugghhh! Need I say more??!?!

  • Dog jewelry
  • No necklaces, hairpins or pendants - double uugghhh!

  • Elevated dog bowls
  • Rumor has it that these contraptions may in fact even be bad for our digestion.

There are probably other dumb ones out there that I have missed, but these are my Top 5.

As you can see, most of these involve making your dog into more of a "little person" and dressing them up to be "cuter."

I say, let the fur stand on it's own!

Resist the Urge!

Sure, your guy is awesome and cute and so you're thinking it will be fun to dress him up. You take him out and people laugh and make funny comments. Their first thought is "how cute?" But, also that you might be indulging your pet a bit.

But here's our little secret, you're not really indulging your dog, but annoying him and, perhaps, indulging yourself!

This brown dog suggests that you resist that urge and use your generous spirit to redirect your "doggie indulgent dollars" to something that can be of a greater benefit like your local dog rescue or the Delta Society.

And remember... let the fur stand on it's own!

...you can also skip that whole "elevated feeding" idea too!

Sorry, just my dog-sense kicking in!
