Popular Dog Breeds
If you are one of those people that prefer a purebred, take a look at the most popular dog breeds first. The most popular are that way for a reason! Among all the things that may be different among the most popular breeds, it is the traits they have in common that make them so popular. And, that is their great temperament - being so good natured. All of these dogs are generally very good family dogs. Should you decide to pursue a less popular breed, be sure to take the time to fully research it. This will enable you to better know what type of personality to expect and how active your dog may be. Be sure to only bring a dog into your family that fits your lifestyle. As a mutt, I am trying to not take any of this personally.
The Top Five
In recent years, these popular dog breeds are usually included in, or near, the top five:* Labrador Retriever These guys have a very good temperament and are very friendly. They are excellent pets for households with children and older adults. My cousin Jake is a black Lab who loves to run and swim! * Yorkshire Terrier Little fluffy "Yorkies" make great companions for condo and apartment living. And, they taste like chicken! - just kidding :-)
* German ShepherdYes, part of my "mutt-ness" is German Shepherd (some Lab too). A very intelligent and great working dog - police, guide and herding. One of the dog breeds that needs to get a good amount of exercise every day. A very good and loyal family pet. * Golden Retriever A very good temperament and another great family dog. These guys are highly intelligent and are generally good around all kinds of people, children and other animals. Another larger breed that needs daily exercise. * Beagle These fellas are very cute, fun-loving and great with kids.
Uno,
the Beagle, won first prize in the 2008 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show! It is a good idea to begin your research for the most
popular dog breeds,
as well as others, via the American Kennel Club. Again, ensure that you fully understand the needs of dog breeds you are considering. Take the time to understand what you must do to ensure a good home for your choice!
